| woodvale is a completely fictional town located on the coast of oregon, about an hour and a half outside of portland. we are not, however, your run-of-the-mill town community. why? because anything can happen in woodvale, from the magical to the downright strange. waking up one day with superpowers? check. alien abductions? got ‘em too, mulder. we plan to borrow from the best elements of pop culture films, television shows, books, and more with community-wide events and mini plots. we want woodvale to be a place that thrives on both individual and collaborative creativity, with an open and judgment-free environment, where everyone gets a voice in choosing what happens next. if that sounds like something you're interested in, then we happily welcome you to woodvale, a town unlike any other (we know we keep saying that, but it's the official town slogan and we've got a lot of hometown pride). |

| woodvale was founded in 1844 by charles m. woodsworth and a group of settlers who diverged from a larger group of travelers on the oregon trail after a disagreement in direction. the other group settled in what eventually became the city of portland. even with a population of approximately 10,000 people, woodvale still evokes that small-town feeling where everyone knows each other. that's because most of woodvale's residents were born and raised there and have no idea just how peculiar their little town really is. but don't let its size fool you; woodvale boasts plenty of attractions, shops, phenomenons, and perils. in recent years, woodvale has experienced a spike in new real estate and tourism due to its affordable cost of living and proximity to the coast, and curious out-of-towners find themselves dazzled by woodvale's supposed oddities. most valers swear they'd never leave despite the threat of volcanic eruption and the frequent supernatural anomalies, though many who do leave end up returning because nowhere else is quite as magnificent or strange enough for them. |

| q: i want to join, but i'm not really into supernatural stuff. do you think i'd still like being at woodvale? a: absolutely! at its core, woodvale is just a town where crazy shit happens sometimes. most mini plots will average a few days to a week, and we'll be spacing them apart enough so there is plenty of time for average town life in between. you always get to choose what you participate in, and we will never force you to do anything with your character that you might not want to. if you prefer he/she doesn't interact with supernatural stuff when it happens, they can lead a blissfully ignorant muggle life, but as mods we also hope everyone participates in as much as possible!
