first and foremost

this is not a community for people who like to play it safe or for anyone who is uncomfortable with stretching the boundaries of reality. woodvale is a fictional city without limits, based on pure imagination and located on the crossroad of the absurd and fantastical. our goal is to cultivate an environment that is filled with a variety of fun group activities, interesting and developed characters, plenty of drama, and creative direction without judgment. we encourage all kinds of character backstories and personality types here. before you join, abandon the notion of impossible, because "impossible" is a nonexistent concept in woodvale.

coming into the fold

to join woodvale, you will need an ic journal with both a friends only post and ooc contact post visible. we also require a short survey that should be visible in either your contact post or a linked directory page. because we are a development-driven community, we included the survey to help you (and us!) get a grasp on the character you'll be writing. examples are also required, and we ask to see at least one (1) entry (narrative, blog post, etc.) and one (1) scene example. once accepted, you will have 72 hours to post an introduction or you will be removed. we will also remove anyone who posts and runs without answering any comments.

point of no return

woodvale runs on a monthly update cycle, meaning members have to make one substantial post in their journal each month. 'substantial' means anything that takes more effort than a one liner or image with a hover. some examples: narratives, photoshop updates, fake social media pages, blog entries, etc. because woodvale will be a collaborative community by nature, we also require participation in at least one activity per month. this can be anything from participation in a group thread, ffa, plot post, chat, game, collaborative update, etc. to avoid dead weight, we will also run occasional activity checks.

where it just gets weird

what sets woodvale apart from other places (besides the looming volcano, zombie outbreaks, alien abductions, etc.) is that we are a collaborative community. this means that members have just as much artistic control as mods do over woodvale's direction. for example, we have a locations directory and list of npc residents that everyone can add to. there will be monthly mini plots and breaking news stories that will span everything from normal events to supernatural occurrences. it's up to you to determine how your character gets involved (or doesn't, if you prefer they live in a muggle-esque state of ignorance)! we will also have a designated area for members to suggest ideas for plots and activities, and the community will make ample use of discussion posts to come together and form ideas around said plots and activities.

last but not least

woodvale has a zero tolerance policy on ic/ooc blurring or harassment of any kind. by joining, you've given us your agreement to be respectful to everyone else here. we want every single member of woodvale to feel they can openly write and interact, and as mods we posess the right to remove you at any time if we learn you have done something to jeopardize that by blurring or harassment. this extends to anonymous journals, which we do not condone as a community. if you are aware of any serious issues occurring, please let us know in the dropbox and we will do our best to handle the situation.
